What Is EyeDetect®?

EyeDetect® is a modern credibility assessment tool that analyzes subtle eye responses while a person answers a series of carefully structured yes-or-no questions. Small changes in reading patterns and eye behavior can indicate cognitive stress associated with deception.

Unlike traditional polygraph testing, EyeDetect is computer-based and completed independently by the test subject.

The technology was developed by researchers at the University of Utah in the early 2000s and has continued to evolve through ongoing scientific research and field application.

What Does EyeDetect Do?

EyeDetect is used to evaluate truthfulness related to specific issues or behaviors. Testing typically takes 15–30 minutes.

Depending on the situation, it may be used for:

  • Pre-employment screening

  • Workplace investigations

  • Criminal or civil matters

  • Infidelity concerns

  • Substance use disclosures

  • Compliance verification

There are two main formats:

  • Screening tests — general behavior categories

  • Single-issue tests — focused on one specific allegation

Each test is structured around clearly defined questions tailored to the matter at hand.

Why Use EyeDetect?

When the facts matter and uncertainty is creating stress, a scientifically developed credibility assessment can provide additional clarity.

EyeDetect is often used as:

  • A second opinion

  • A verification tool

  • A way to resolve disputes

  • A step toward rebuilding trust

If you’re seeking clarity and peace of mind, EyeDetect offers a structured and research-based approach to truth verification.

How Does EyeDetect® Work?

When someone answers a question dishonestly, the brain must manage additional mental effort. This increased cognitive demand can influence small, involuntary eye responses.

EyeDetect measures subtle changes such as:

  • Pupil dilation

  • Reading patterns

  • Eye movements

  • Blink rate

  • Fixation timing

These physiological shifts occur automatically and are not something a person can easily control.

The system evaluates patterns across responses to determine whether the data is more consistent with truthful or deceptive answering.

What Happens During a Test?

Testing is completed on a computer.

Participants read and respond to a structured series of True/False questions that focus on clearly defined topics. A specialized camera monitors eye behavior throughout the session.

Most tests are completed in approximately 15–30 minutes.

After the session ends, response data and eye measurements are securely transmitted for automated analysis. Results are generated through proprietary algorithms developed by the EyeDetect system.

Based on this analysis, the test indicates whether responses are more consistent with truthfulness or deception.

How Are Results Delivered?

Results are accessed through a secure, web-based reporting platform available to authorized providers.

The report includes a Credibility Score, which reflects the statistical likelihood that the individual answered truthfully based on the measured data.

As a certified provider, I review these results with clients to ensure clarity and appropriate interpretation within the specific context of the case.
